Vehicle Description In 1949, the still young Mercury name came out with its very first new post WWII design and it was a real hit.
Its exceptionally long and low design paired with its powerful flathead V8 engine that was 10 horsepower more than its Ford counterpart really made it a hit with new buyers and especially with young car customizers such as George Barris.
Most notably the Mercury coupe was featured in the hit movie Rebel Without a Cause featuring James Dean and from then on was forever a legendary car.
In 1951, Mercury gave its already popular car a facelift by extending the front grille as well as lengthening the rear quarter panels and updating the taillights which really gave the Mercury an even more custom car look right out of the factory.
Certainly one of the coolest production American cars of the 1950's for various reasons.
Offered here is an incredibly original and unmolested 1951 Mercury Eight coupe straight from an estate in California where it has been stored away for many decades.
Still wearing its California black plates, this Mercury doesn't have a spec of rust anywhere and has just over 60,000 original miles from new.
The original upholstery is in exceptional condition and the wonderful grey paint and brightwok is in great condition.
We recently serviced the car mechanically giving it a tune up, carburetor rebuild, complete fuel system cleaning and a complete brake job, its ready to be driven and enjoyed.
The Mercury flathead runs unbelievably well, so well you can't even hear it.
The 1949-51 Mercury eight in coupe form is one of the most iconic 1950's American cars and to find one in perfect low mileage original condition is very difficult.
If you are looking for a fantastic preservation car and an iconic one at that, look no further.
