Vehicle Description The TR2 was the first true post-war Triumph sports car and it was superseded in 1955 by the TR3 and later the TR4 which signaled the end of the era of open side curtain cars and the beginnings of a new era of a Triumph with not just performance and style, but with all the comforts of a luxury car.
A completely new body featured roll-up windows, and while the purists howled, everyone else rejoiced.
Chassis and drivetrain were little changed, with the most important updates being a synchromesh first gear, rack-and-pinion steering and an engine with slightly more power.
But, later in the TR4s production the car became much more refined including a redesign of the rear suspension and chassis where Triumph replaced the old Hotchkiss drive system with a newly designed independent rear suspension.
The new rear suspension was a semi trailing-arm system with coil springs and lever-arm shocks.
The chassis was redesigned to accommodate the new suspension at the rear, with extensive changes to the side members and cross-bracing.
The modifications done to the TR4 really improved the ride comfort as well as handling.
Only the last of the TR4s had these upgrades from the factory making them more sought after today.
Offered here is an absolutely beautifully restored 1967 Triumph TR4 A IRS that had a very thorough restoration completed by Mark Lefferts of Ridgefield, Connecticut who is most noted for his restoration of Bugattis.
The body is extremely straight with its British green paint and brightwork that is in really nice condition.
The top and interior are restored correctly as the car would have left the factory in 1967.
The undercarriage is also very clean showing no signs of ever having any rust or rust repair.
Mechanically the engine runs extremely well and the transmission shifts as it should.
The engine compartment is also very clean and is as nice as the outside of the car.
Recently treated to a full mechanical service including carburetor cleaning, brake service and fluid and spark plug change.
With this car's beautiful restoration, roll up windows and being a very late TR4 with the very rare independent rear suspension any collector or someone looking for a reliable, practical and stylish sports car would be proud to own this car.
