Vehicle Description Designed by Hans Nibel and introduced in 1931, the 170 was a model that Mercedes would keep all the way until 1955.
A very advanced design, especially for 1931, with independent suspension all the way around, four wheel hydraulic brakes and a 1.
6 liter side valve 4 cylinder engine.
After World War II the 170 was upgraded to the more powerful and luxurious S model.
Along with the more usual sedans, the 170S was also offered in the sporty and much less commonly seen Cabriolet A body style with a 2 seat sports configuration with room for luggage and a convertible top.
Today there are only 12 know in the United States.
This car, a beautiful Cabriolet A has had just two owners from new and discovered by us last year in a garage in Massachusetts.
Upon its discovery we had sent an email out showing off our find.
We decided the car was too special to not restore and preserve and so we did, a complete restoration.
This is one of the finest examples in existence with a single ownership from 1960 until 2020 and only 20,000 original miles! The car was stripped down and completely restored.
The original upholstery was in perfect condition, as is expected from a 20,000 original mile car, and was cleaned and preserved.
All of the wood trim inside was restored and the car was finished in its original colors of dark grey with a grey convertible top.
It runs and drives wonderfully and is equipped with the optional early Becker radio and original tools.
All of the mechanicals have been gone through and it runs and drives wonderfully.
