Vehicle Description Post World War II the rebirth of BMWs popularity can really be credited to the Neue Klasse four-door 1500 saloon and its derivatives and going even further with the launch of a revised two-door range in 1966.
These cars featured BMW's trustworthy 1600cc overhead cam 4 cylinder M10 engine (later the 1602) which was capable of 100MPH.
The M10 would later become the basis for the turbo-charged 1,000-horsepower Grand Prix unit and Formula 1 World Championship winner.
These cars also were made with unibody construction, all-independent suspension and front disc brakes.
Even though the 1600cc unit was great in its own right, buyers wanted more power, pressure especially came from BMWs U.
S.
distributor Max Hoffman.
So, in 1968 the 2002 was born and was and still is one of the most popular models ever produced by BMW.
Equipped with a 2.
0 liter version of the M10, the 2002 was now turning out 100HP at 5500 RPM.
Production lasted all the way until 1976 because it was such a popular design.
Offered here is one of the sought after early versions of the 2002, a 1972 model with chrome bumpers and round taillights.
Produced in December of 1971, this 2002 is finished in its correct colors of Sahara tan paired with a medium brown leatherette interior, a very striking yet subdue combination.
It was completely restored in 2013 using mostly new old stock BMW parts.
It runs and drives incredibly well and is an extremely clean example.
It is also equipped with an in dash modern programable radio that has a retro look so it doesn't look out of place.
This is a great car for any sports car collection or perfect to drive daily as it is basically a brand new car.
